Using PLR in a Pinch

In some circles the reference to PLR articles (Private Label Rights) is very taboo; using them is frowned upon even worse. There’s good reason for this; most of them suck, are written poorly and distributed to thousands of users. But there are a few places that have been around for several years and deliver quality work.

If you’re running short on time or cash and can’t afford to hire a writer in a pinch; PLR can be very useful and cost effective.

Here are a few tips for using PLR to your advantage:

  • Never use them as posts for guest blogging or as a paid writing gig. PLR should only be used on your own blog or in your own newsletter. They make great filler.
  • Always rewrite them. This is part of the reason they’ve received such a bad rap–they’ve been used as-is over and over. PLR will not get you out of writing, they simply make the process quicker in a pinch or if you’re feeling uninspired to come up with your own material.
  • Always buy from well-respected suppliers who limit the amount of article packs they sell.
  • Use them in a series or a special report. This works really well if you have a vacation planned or an out of town meeting or convention. You can rewrite them quickly and set them to publish in your blog while you’re away.

Using PLR articles can be very useful and cost effective over hiring writers, but please remember to be smart and responsible with the use of them.

Has anyone here used PLR to their advantage? Do you have any tips to offer other bloggers? We’d love to hear your opinions.
